A popular home slot car manufacturer in the 60's. It's sets could have the cars running on the same track and be independently controlled. Still, the cars could be used in regular tracks. Their cars were toy-like . However, with proper detailing and painting, they looked great. The company was purchased by Cox in the late 60's. Eldon are one of the true Founding Fathers of Slot Car Racing in North America in the early years. They really pioneered cheap slot racing sets in the mass market,and helped in a large way to bring Slot Cars to the attention of the general shopping public. A lot of the early Eldon cars were no more than Cartoon Characitures of real cars, having rather crude,and fairly robust construction. They consisted basically, of a bottom Chassis tray, and a top section, that when screwed together, held all the mechanical bits between the two halves. Often refered to as clamshell construction, this method was used by many Slot Car Manufacturers in the early days (late 50s early 60s). Later, in the early sixties, Eldon developed a separate Chassis/Body system, that greatly streamlined manufacturing, as they then only needed a single chassis,that could accomodate a wide range of Bodies. An added side effect, was that the cars ran and handled far better this way as well. This particular chassis,was molded in severall colours of Nylon,Grey,semi translucent white (Kind of see through Nylon color), and Black,with the see through ones being far more prevalant. Through the early years of this chassis (guess 61-66) motive power was provided by a very cheap and crude Mabuchi 3-6V motor painted a fairly dark Blue. There were two sizes of wheel offered, one fairly small in diameter, approximately.450 , with a shallow groove in it's outer surface, to accept the tire. This wheel has shallow five spoke pattern engraved on it's outer face, and is classicaly reffered to as the Five Spoke Rim when talked about in Eldon circles. The other wheel was markedly different in style and diameter, being a wire wheel design, with a rim diameter of.620, but having rather than a groove for the tire, a Raised Rib, more in common with British and European Slot cars wheels.
